“Braids” is a graphite portrait drawing on a vintage library date-due card. The title and subject combination are a bit more on-the-nose than my usual, but occasionally even I can’t resist! Also, please forgive the lack of my usual high quality flat scan image — my computer is on the fritz at the moment and I did my best in a pinch with my phone camera.
I have a precious small collection of these cards (which haven’t been used by libraries in decades, so they’re a very finite resource), and every so often I pull out a few and make art on them. I most recently offered one on EDO this past December, so this is a rare second card in a row! I actually drew this one late last year, just a little while after offering the previous card, hence the date of 2025. Every single one is hard to let go, but it’s also wonderful to see how every one of them connects with a different person in a special way.
The card is about 3.5×5 inches, and will be mounted and matted with an acid-free mat, and shipped flat and ready to fit into any standard 5×7 inch frame. The matted and framed example images are from previous cards, but the mounting and matting will be identical.
