Deirdre

by Kaysha Siemens

“Deirdre” is named for a dear friend I lost to cancer just two days ago. The real-life Deirdre was affectionately known as the mermaid of her circle, and was an artist herself as well, who loved to draw merfolk and sea creatures on just about anything at hand. It seemed only fitting to title this little piece (which I was incidentally already working on at the time of her passing) in her memory. Half of this sale will be donated in her honor. ♡

Oil on panel, 5 x 7 inches. The frame is 8 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches in total, and is ready to hang. The painting is very fresh (I will add a clean scan image when it is dry enough to do so, if it has not already sold by then), so it will ship about a week from now, once it is varnished.

I was born and raised in Canada, and now make my home near Asheville, NC, USA. My work is primarily figurative and narrative. I work mainly in oil and graphite. My current primary focus is Mnemosyne, an ongoing project inspired by Greek myth.

My goal is the object of beauty, but that goal is achieved through engagement in process, and neither aim is worthwhile without meaning and intention. I seek to talk about the ordinary with the language of story, to arrest with exquisite imagery, and ultimately to leave viewers with a feeling, a lingering sense, that they have had a brush with the sublime.
