Sea Serpent

I’ve painted a lot of sailing ships and have always enjoyed their lines. I was excited to mix the rigidity of the ship with the serpentine shape of the dragon. As someone that gets sea-sick, I’m very glad to visit the fantasy and excitement of the high seas from the safety of my drawing table.

Gregory Manchess’ versatile oil paintings have been widely awarded in illustration, showcased for countless books and magazines such as Time, Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, and National Geographic. He has painted numerous USPS stamps including the 2023 Snow Globes Christmas series and the March On Washington Forever Stamps. His illustrations are highlighted in the Coen Brothers movie, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and recently his mission patch designs accompanied the NASA astronauts to the International Space Station. He is the author, artist, and playwright of the novel, Above the Timberline. He lectures at universities across the country and teaches online at SmArter Art School. Gregory will be inducted into the NY Society’s Illustration Hall of Fame in September, 2024.
