This acrylic painting is part of my “fish dragon” creature series. I’m drawing inspiration from real animals to create fantastical dragons.

While not fish, I’d been wanting to expand upon the idea of whale dragons for a long time. The Humpback Dragon marks the first creature design of this not-so-little subgroup.
The acrylic painting for this one uses more expressive brushwork to show the texture of the Humpback.

Painted on Fabriano Watercolor 300g/m paper in acrylics, 11.5 x 8.5 inches (29 x 21.5 cm), with a matte varnish for protection.
