As a distel grows older their spininess increases. Older distels are less agile and are easier prey. As a defence, they develop more rigid prickles to ward off danger. In medieval times people believed that a distel faery held the cure against baldness. Distels were collected and sold as a miracle cure, rendering them almost extinct.

Iris Compiet

Iris Compiet is a traditional artist from the Netherlands. She's an illustrator with international clients, exhibits in galleries around the world and creator of the Faeries of the Faultlines. A book written and illustrated by her, documenting faeries.
