The Wolpertinger
Watercolor, Colored Pencil, & Metal Leaf on Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper
The mischievous Wolpertinger stems from German folklore and the creative storytelling of Bavarian taxidermists. The Wolpertinger is known to have many different forms, but the most common is the face and body of a hare, with wings of a pheasant, horns of a deer, and fangs. This is my own little interpretation of this mystical creature.
It is said to only show itself to a beautiful young maiden on the night of a full moon, and only within the secluded parts of the Bavarian forest if brought there by the “right” man.
But it is also said to bring a bit of luck to those who see it, so maybe, just maybe, this piece will be a totem of luck in your own home.
