Drawing Down the Moon
Original Art by Amelia Leonards
She is made of smoke and dreams, wisps of spider silk, and gleaming moonbeams.
She is elusive (of course). You’ll only ever catch the whisper of a whisker here, a trickle of laughter there, the fleeting impression of fading pawprints in dewy moonlit fields- and only then when the moon is full.
She loves poppies, and coaxes threads of silken moonlight to pool between their petals, to be held and sheltered and cherished. She sings to draw down the moon, her voice high and clear and cold, like the stars above.
If you’re lucky enough to spot her, you won’t remember. You’ll awake in your bed, miles away from poppies swaying beneath the moon, heart aching and ears ringing with the echo of her laughter.
Ever since I began this series, I’ve been waiting for the Fox Goddess of Dreams to appear. (I’d make a snide remark, ask her what took her so long, but I suspect she’d just smile mysteriously and reply with a quote about grasping at intangible straws. . . if she replied at all.)
As always- and I’m sure you all know exactly what is coming next- the original piece will ship matted but unframed. Not only does glass make foxes and owls nervous, it’s also sometimes rather brutally mauled by the USPS, and nobody needs that!
Image Size is 8.25″ X 12″ and is painted with watercolor and white ink on Arches 140lb cold press paper.
