I initially began this piece with the intention of keeping it as simple as possible; a few juicy washes that needn’t take me more than an hour, or two or three at most. I failed, of course. I ended up making another involved study in miniature. It took me two or three days.

When this piece was first shared across social media, a number of people remarked that it was reminiscent of Dürer’s animal studies, which I was of course immensely gratified and touched by. I’ve become very fond of it and am quite sad to let it go.
