The Hidden Garden of Knowledge

by Carolin Leary Prinn

“Do not worry weary traveller, you had to get here to see it…

“For want of adventure or perhaps to prevent a stagnant dream, we are brought here. Yet the hidden garden of knowledge is guarded by a lazy dragon, for it is not getting into the door that is hard as it is to continue to climb all that ways. It is somewhere in the middle where the fiercer foes are met. Way turns into wayward, fear strikes, and lightly lidded jars look like easy answers. The libraries we find in this maze-like realm hold infinite memories like rippling waters. Atop at last we find our boon, dazzling and gold and all we would expect, and yet over the hill is reminiscent of many things we had before we started. Something that already existed in us, even as children. And here is the real treasure.”

This original watercolor painting is double matted in a custom ornate black wooden frame ready to hang.

Carolin creates her works from a love of myth, history, the human journey and recollections from her world travels. Utilising a classical but also illustrative use of watercolours, pen and ink and traditional dry media, her works evoke her mythical world - The Islands of Niljora - which she began penning from a young age, and that has developed into the rich symbolism and storytelling behind her works. Delicate and ethereal, complex and full of exquisite detail, her works elicit an otherworldly realm of tales within tales.

Granted a full time scholarship, Carolin completed her degree with Honours at The Savannah College of Art & Design. Alongside exhibiting in The United States, New Zealand and Europe, she has engaged in projects for books, covers and magazines, and been selected to feature in publications including The International A.R.C. Salon Catalogue, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Infected By Art, Hyperlux Magazine and Fabled Magazine.

Her works can be found in collections in The United States, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and India and her books are part of the permanent heritage collections of New Zealand's National Libraries and beyond.
