Eidolon
Original Art by Amelia Leonards
The call is but a whisper on the wind, barely audible, the thinnest and weakest susurration through shy blossoms. Her entire body shudders with its vibration, a lonesome, tuneless instrument longing for a familiar caress. Memories flutter in her train, ghostly echoes of yesterday, as she wings her way back, back, desperately seeking to pierce a formless veil, following the call by the glow of last year’s moon.
And so the echoes of yesterday call us ever backwards and downwards, fluttering helplessly against the currents of time, endlessly reaching, reaching for that which is forever lost, forever beyond our grasp.
In Ancient Greek literature, an Eidolon is a ‘spirit-image’ of a living or dead person. The direct translation of the word itself is ‘image, idol, double, apparition, phantom, or ghost.’
As always- and I’m sure you all know exactly what is coming next- the original piece will ship matted but unframed. Not only does glass make my creatures nervous, it’s also sometimes rather brutally mauled by the USPS, and nobody needs that!
Image Size is 6.5″ X 11.5″ and is painted with watercolor, white ink, and gold pigment on Arches 140lb cold press paper.
