Porcelain Lullaby

This little porcelain bird comes from an avian collection that my mom carefully gathered over the years. It found its way into our family in the 70s. I’ve always seen it as a petite guardian of serenity. It evokes a sense of tranquility and peacefulness. Portraying it during this summer in Poland brought a lot of joy and calm to my racing thoughts.

The painting I created holds a very special place in my heart. It represents a significant milestone–my first attempt at the Alla Prima technique, painting directly from observation onto the canvas with no prior sketching or planning. It’s something I’ve always wanted to try but convinced myself I can’t do it yet.

Do you know what happens when we dare to challenge our long-held beliefs and break free from the narratives we’ve told ourselves for years? Well, that’s when the magic happens:) It may sound like a cliché, but it’s so true that if we let go of fears and jump into exploration of uncharted territories, we open ourselves up to growth and the discovery of aspects of ourselves that we never thought possible.

This artwork symbolizes a journey of conquering fears. It’s also an exploration and appreciation of the subtle beauty found in ordinary yet cherished objects.

Hey! My name is Marta Witkiewicz and I’m a traditional artist, illustrator, and writer in love with the word “Magic”. I grew up in a small village in Poland but the chase after dreams took me places. Currently, I live in Madrid, Spain.

During the time of atelier-style education focused mostly on strict classical approaches, my heart was divided between the beauty of fine art and the unrestricted imagination of fantasy illustration.
