A painting in watercolor and gouache after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse’s 1869 sculpture, Hébé Endormie. She’s the daughter of Zeus and Hera, and the cupbearer for the gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus.
A visit to Paris’s Musée d’Orsay inspired this painting. I was completely taken in by Carrier-Belleuse’s marble sculpture of sleeping Hebe, protected by an eagle as she recovers from a wild night on Mount Olympus.
