I’ve been enamored with threads since I drew my first “unraveling” illustration last year. Besides all of the twists and turns being fun to draw, I love the variety of different things they can represent: destiny, control, connectivity, disintegration. In this piece, the shapes in the background also unintentionally turned out to look like wings!

This piece was also very fun for me practice more realism in my traditional art, push my comfort zone on how dark I’m willing to paint with watercolor, and experiment with bolder silhouettes.

Amber recently decided to pursue illustration full-time after a lifetime of drawing and painting as a hobbyist. She loves to paint figures in surreal scenes, heavily inspired by a childhood of anime and fantasy.

Outside of art, Amber likes to dabble in ceramics and other crafty hobbies, play video and tabletop games, read fantasy novels, and chase her two year old around the house.
