The Wood Dragon

by Marian Pham

A special dragon painting to bring in the new Lunar Year. As an Earth Dragon myself, I had to take this opportunity to indulge in something for the Year of the Dragon!

I decided to return to oriental painting for this piece, as I love the abstract way a sumi ink brush stroke can convey a mythical creature. I pulled out my materials and supplies from when I was studying abroad in South Korea back in my college days, and it was wonderful reintroducing myself back to this style of painting.

This dragon was painted using black and gold sumi ink on quality Korean Hanji paper measuring approximately 9.5×14 inches. The paper is mounted on 11×17 inch real cherry wood paper with acid free Nori paste. And finally, it is stamped with my name on the bottom left along with a mood stamp on the bottom right that roughly translates to “good will extends life.” The art will look great under a glass and framed.
