Tender

by Daniel Bitton

Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable can be a painful process.

Naturally, we put up walls, calloused over layer after layer as a form of self-preservation. What this transformation reveals, although vulnerable, is something genuine and beautiful. The figure here can be seen emerging from murky waters, carefully maneuvering around the defensive thorns of her hardened shell, removing it piece by piece.

Size: 8 x 10
Media: Acrylic, colored pencil, chalk pastel.
Substrate: Fabriano paper mounted on cradled panel.

I’m an illustrator originally from Ft. Lauderdale, FL currently living in West Chester, PA working primarily in science fiction and fantasy genres. I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration.

My love for drawing began in early childhood as a way to connect with my favorite stories, worlds, and games. I love to depict fantastic characters and tell stories through my illustrations which are inspired by dreams, myths, and the ancient world.

My overall goal with my work is to try and depict intimate moments in narrative scenes through limited color palette and layers of traditional texture. When not drawing, you can find me running on the trails or thinking about my next project.
