Reclamation

by Jo Tomsick

Vines grow thick and verdant around a sword lost to the ages. Slowly, the forces of nature warp, deform, and degrade the weapon, calling it back to its elemental parts. This blade represents the oath humankind made to planet Earth, forged to protect, safeguard, and defend. Today, that oath of guardianship is corrupted, the sword instead weilded as a weapon to pillage the earth of its resources, leaving vast landscapes wasted. Still, it is my steadfast belief that, even when promises are broken and the fates of our public lands are dictated by greedy tyrants, hope still remains–the slow power of nature to reclaim and redefine itself is something that cannot be stifled.
