The Pumpkin Guard is a special friend of mine, he’s part of a personal project that I have been developing for a number of years. He’s a cursed, haunted farmer, and a defender of pumpkins. In “Repose”, he’s looking pretty spiritless, he has what I call a “Hissper” on his arm. It’s an awful bug that keeps you from moving forward, kind of like that voice in your head that won’t go away. Pumpkin Guard wasn’t always this way…

The sky and clouds were done in watercolor, the rest of him is charcoal.

About the Artist

Xavier Ortiz

Xavier is a watercolor artist from Sacramento, California. He studied classic animation at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. His paintings are influenced by old folktales and the occult. He has done several album/E.P. art designs for bands and enjoys it very much. He is currently working on a personal graphic novel as well as some comic shorts. Xavier participates in various gallery group shows, online as well as in person galleries. He balances his art with his stay at home dad duties to his two young boys, Vincent and Oz.
