Perseverance is a 7″ x 10″ acrylic and colored pencil piece, painted on Fabriano hot press watercolor paper of a fiery axolotl and is enclosed in a gold frame. Axolotls are fascinating – I recall first seeing them in high school biology and finding them oddly cute and intriguing with their regenerative abilities. As time has gone on I’ve learned more about the mythology surrounding them with their connection to the god Xolotl, and how they are also symbols of transformation, perseverance, and resilience.

Caitlin Fowler is an artist based in Northern California. Her work is narrative based, gravitating towards the realm of dreaminess and dark fantasy with a feminine, ethereal feel. While she finds inspiration in everyday life and occurrences, her biggest influences have been mythology, folklore, literature, psychology and the natural world. She works primarily with mixed media using ink, acrylic washes, and colored pencil.
