Nine of Swords/Poppy
by Kevin Jay Stanton
Poppies represent sleep, and are woven into the crowns of the Greek gods of night and death. White seeds were added to a caudle of almond milk to induce a deep, restful sleep, but it’s very easy to misuse their power. The swords are makhaira, which were often used for ritualistic sacrifices.
DIVINATORY – Pain or illness. Oppression. A heavy burden. Suffering and grief.
REVERSE – Having been overwhelmed while waking, now a restorative sleep. Peace comes with the dawn.
