“The air was crisp and cool beneath wings

The sky grew light until the mountains blazed

And the mist pulled from the green, deep water

The smallest sounds echoed across the lake

The whoosh of movement, calm and steady

Warmed the muscles, welcomed the new day.”

This is a continuation of a long series of dragon paintings in the PNW and surrounding mountain regions. The series is intended to join fantasy with nature in a way that reminds us of home.
Inspired by the majestic mountains and clear glacial lake waters of an early morning hike around Lake Louise, Banff, Canada.

Painted in watercolor and gouache, signed in black ink (all media pro-grade, lightfast)
*Size of the dragon is about 1.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall
Artwork is 6×9 inches, conservation mounted and double matted to fit a standard 11×14 inch frame (UV glass highly recommended).
Mat colors are muted forest green and dark cool gray.

Katie Croonenberghs

Katie is a fantasy artist based in the greater Seattle area. Specializing in watercolor and currently exploring gouache, her focus is on fantastical creatures with strong roots in our natural world. Landscapes and environments play a large role in her works as a result of growing up surrounded and inspired by majestic scenery of Montana, and further fed by the beauty of the Pacific North West. Recurring themes in her work include dragons and other elegant mythical or magical creatures in fully rendered landscapes and environments - often times filled with plenty of trees and rocks.
