Ayla
by Kaysha Siemens
Ayla is an oil painting on a round coaster (not one that was ever used for a drink, but a fresh one specially prepared for painting!), mounted and framed in a round wooden frame with a chain for hanging. The edges of the coaster are accented with a saturated salmon to accentuate the colors in the painting and add a surprise pop of brightness when viewed from the side. The scan image (with the plain white around the art, no frame) shows the colors of the actual painting most accurately. 🙂
Happy Mermay, everyone!
Ayla is 4 inches from edge to edge, and her frame is 5 7/8 inches across, and 3/4 inches deep.

My goal is the object of beauty, but that goal is achieved through engagement in process, and neither aim is worthwhile without meaning and intention. I seek to talk about the ordinary with the language of story, to arrest with exquisite imagery, and ultimately to leave viewers with a feeling, a lingering sense, that they have had a brush with the sublime.
