A golden skeletal hand elegantly posed, the delicate bones covered by translucent pink skin etched with anemones, scarred with cuts and gold hang nails. The fingers drip silver that turns blood red. I’ve been thinking a lot about artists’ place in society when that society is fully burning down around us. Some call our pursuits irrelevant and self-indulgent, others call it an absolute necessity – a crucial tether to humanity and hope.
This piece is the first in a year-long series that will be exclusive to EDO, released on the 22nd of every other month (the next is March 22nd). Each piece stands alone but can be arranged together into a narrative. Created from sequin film, film gel, glass and resin beads, and thread, stitched onto illusion in a wooden frame. The frame measures 20 inches x 10 inches (w x h), the entire piece measures 20 x 29 inches (w x h). Ready to hang.
