My Way

by Valerie Savarie

Music plays such a large part in our lives. It stirs up memories, moves us to tears, makes us get up and dance and connects us to loved ones as well as strangers.

This piece is based on the song “Don’t Rain on My Parade” as sung by Barbara Streisand from Funny Girl which is based on the real life of Fanny Brice. She was a successful, driven and unique woman and at the same time very down to earth. Yellow roses are part of the film (and roses are mentioned in the song). Lyrics speak of beating her own drum, the rose of perfection, wanting a bite of juicy life (apple). The character has her umbrella – just in case things don’t go quite as planned.
