Rosarium (painted version)
by Kelley Hensing
Rosarium means “rose garden”. The symbolism also references the creative mind.
This piece first came into being as one of my color pencil drawings on toned gray paper. (Featured in last photo- note the drawing is not included with the painted version.) I’d really liked how it turned out, and decided to create this larger more detailed painting of it. This also allowed me extra room to add little hidden faces to the rose centers, that I wasn’t able to fit into the smaller drawing.
This piece is newly painted! So I’ll still be giving this a final varnish when fully dry. At that point I’ll also extend out a few of the plant tendrils around the edges to fade out into the background. (And add my signature~)
This piece is oval and comes in a vintage frame that I found, which includes some *imperfections (see description below, along with included photos). This is also why I’ve listed this piece for a little less compared to it’s size.
*Although this vintage frame was not in ideal condition when I found it, I did my best to touch up some of the flaws and gave it a fresh coat of gold paint. Most notably it seems like it’s missing some of the wood decor that would have extended at the top, and there is an area along the bottom rim missing some of the edge (see detail pictures). As it can be challenging finding vintage oval frames at all, I still wanted to use this one for a piece and give it a new life with a painting.
