An owl looks at her feathers and feels drab. “I am but brown, gray and white!” says she, and collects the most brilliant of stones so she can rival the brilliance of the hummingbirds and tanagers. But in the trees, those same small songbirds envy her subtle beauty. “Look at how soft her feathers, how her speckles look like stars and her wings seem like clouds.”

Brenda Lyons
An illustrator who loves birds and the worlds of nature and myth. My medium of choice is watercolor, as well as acrylic, ink, and graphite. I've created coloring books for the Cornell Lab Publishing Group and teach illustration at RMCAD. I spend my summers working on wildlife and glacier boats on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, where I get lots of artistic inspiration.
