The Raven Flies to Dawn

by Laura Siadak

Somewhere far below the woods, this place existed unknown to all that walked above.

Raven flew steadily on, time and again letting out a call as if in hopes to hear something answer. The torn ribbon that’d been an easy path to follow now barely more than a bit of string twisted about his talons. Light gathered around that strange violet as if momentarily confused on where it ought to have been going, growing a little stronger with each ruffled beat of his wings through the shadows. Fireflies looking for a place to play, and they seemed to have found it with the feather and Raven, dancing along with the last of the ribbon.

Laura Siadak is a traditional painter delving into the realm of fantastical illustration. Her love of stories unfold in brief moments within her work. She encourages others to share a story they see from within a piece of artwork, as if adding on another chapter. Much of her work also relies on what friends and family have said around her, even if not knowing they'd sparked an idea. Laura has a BFA from Alfred, School of Art and Design in Alfred, NY 2002 and moved to the St. Louis area in 2005.
