It’s December, and amidst the cold and wet of New England’s winter, I hold in my hands a reminder of summer. “The Golden Path” was painted as the days grew shorter, when the water in the surrounding streams had dried to a mere trickle. A few hikers walked by – Buffam Falls is always a popular spot – but the mosquitos were fierce, and no-one stayed for long. After looking about for a suitable subject, I realized the island itself was suggesting something.
A deep rust-green was broken by beams of pure gold sunlight. I did my best to grab them – nailing each with a thick bright stroke layered on thin scumbled viridian and ochre.
“The Golden Path, Buffam Falls” is an original oil painting, 11″x15,” oil on stretched canvas, and mounted in a custom black and gold plein air frame.
