The Lantern’s Trail

The forest whispers secrets vast,
Of magics dark and eons past.

Your name is heard among the din,
A siren lure to draw me in.

Would stones could talk, their voice I’d heed
Digressed from quest or noble deed

The cornflowers tall, they’d have my ears
To speak of dreams, of death, of fears.

All the while, the light’s trail grows
The forest waits, the forest knows.

A love letter to all the fairy tales I read as a kid, to be the mysteriously cloaked heroine, crossing the dark forests in whatever noble quest she’d been given. Even if these days I think I associate more with the forest witch minding her own business with her plants and cats!
