King Crow

by Carolina Lebar

“King Crow” is the latest artwork in my series, *Animal Kingdom.*

The white crow is a striking and extraordinary sight, radiating an air of mystique and majesty. Its significance often shifts across various cultures and traditions, embodying themes of transformation, change, and the weight of superstition.

Transformation
In many ancient cultures, the white crow emerges as a potent emblem of transformation and spiritual awakening, heralding profound change. For instance, in ancient Egyptian and Celtic belief systems, this remarkable bird was closely linked to the solar deities, representing the nurturing warmth and illumination of the sun rising on a new dawn.

Superstition
Among certain Native American tribes, the presence of a white crow is seen as a poignant message from the spirit world, a bridge between the seen and the unseen. Folk tales often paint the white crow as a clever trickster, a figure that defiantly upends expectations and challenges the status quo, embodying both mischief and wisdom.

Rarity
The white crow’s presence is extraordinarily rare, making any encounter with one an unforgettable experience that stirs a multitude of emotions. This rarity can be attributed to several intriguing factors, including genetic mutations that create its striking plumage, environmental poisoning, or damage to its cells. Each sighting becomes a moment to cherish, a fleeting glimpse of the extraordinary in the ordinary world.

For this series, I begin by creating an intricate pencil drawing on a wooden panel. Once the drawing is complete, I add a textured background using acrylics. The deliberate contrast between the controlled detail of the drawing and the added chaos of the background creates a visually captivating piece that expresses nature’s majestic beauty versus the uncontrollable wildness of survival.

Dimensions: 8″ x 8″
Medium: Acrylic and Pencil
Details: The sides are painted black, and the artwork is signed in gold on the right side. It is ready to hang.

“My work begins with pencil, creating fine, beautiful details, then with delicate layers of graphite and occasionally paint, I finalize the art. Using pencil and paint I explore tying the past and the present with gatherings of feather, fur, fins, symbolism, and feminine beauty.”
