Some say looking at a black cat is like staring into a void, but Cosmo is no ordinary black cat. Instead, peering at Cosmo gives a glimpse into far away corners of the universe. How could someone possibly work on their archaic magic research when this pretty kitty is demanding attention?

The second piece in my Familiar series. I wanted to paint a classic familiar, a black cat, but with a twist.

About the Artist

Alannah Rose

Alannah is a fantasy illustrator and artist based out of Colorado. She works in oil paint and ink to tell stories about fantastical worlds and the people and creatures that inhabit them. Her work largely uses fantasy as lens for exploring and celebrating both the human emotional condition and her love for the natural world. She received her B.A in Drawing and Painting from Dartmouth College in 2013 and worked as a graphic designer for many years, before returning to school at Watts Atelier to train as a traditional oil painter. She taught at Watts from 2022-2025. She has worked commercially for clients such as Upperdeck, Hit Point Press, Draco Studios, Palladium Books, Paizo Publishing, and Strange Owl Games. Her work has been accepted into Infected by Art Volumes 12 and 13, and the 2024 and 2025 Illuxcon Main Shows.
