Baba Yaga’s Shackling
by Melissa Sue Stanley
Before the witch huts become homes, they spend a youthful year in the garden – at this age and small size we call them Shacklings. They are raised by the Gardener, and there is only one brood every seventeen years.
In the morning she puts on that old dusty coat and mud-caked boots, and stomps into the chilly yard where they greet her: chirping and chomping the tiny sharp teeth in their keyholes.
This life-size Shackling sculpture is apx 5.5″ x 3″ x 2.5″.
Polymer clay with wire and acrylic paint; eyeball is watercolor under glass.
It is made of a rubberized polymer clay (CosClay) so it is not brittle – however it’s still fragile and should be treated as an art object (not for children, not a toy). Keep away from moisture and direct sunlight.
