It is my pleasure to present ‘King Cardinal’, the part of my Animal Kingdom series. Cardinals carry profound personal and cultural meaning for me, as I share the belief that they are messengers from cherished loved ones who have passed on. Their presence is widely celebrated as a symbol of comfort, hope, and lasting love—qualities that deeply inspire my work. Additionally, cardinals represent joy, good fortune, new beginnings, and a sense of divine presence, making them an especially fitting subject for this new year.

My work: My pieces begin with a highly detailed pencil drawing on a wood panel that is 8” x 8” and 3/9” deep. I use an acrylic glazing technique to add color and keep the pencil details. The backgrounds are highly textured to convey the absolute chaos in which animals live every moment of their lives. Each painting features black-painted edges and is signed in gold along the side. No frame needed, and each piece is ready to hang.

Originally from Colombia, Carolina resides in the United States. The pieces she creates explore humanities connections to nature that are echoed throughout history within beliefs and lore. “My work begins with pencil, creating fine, beautiful details, then with delicate layers of graphite and occasionally paint, I finalize the art. Using pencil and paint I explore tying the past and the present with gatherings of feather, fur, fins, symbolism, and feminine beauty.”
