Lynx Totem

The lynx is an elusive animal and rarely seen which is why mentions of it in the Finnish mythology are scarce. It still had some importance in the folk beliefs and among those who delved in magic. The lynx is highly perceptive and thus it is often seen as a symbol for insight. Due to its nature it can also be associated with secrets and magic.

This painting is from my mini series “Old Gods: TOTEM” in which I explored the different powers and wisdoms people could gain from different animals. People could seek guidance for their troubles, directions for life or even gain magical powers to communicate with or travel into the underworld.

Painted in ink and gold medium on 300 g/sqm Lanaquarelle cold press watercolour paper. The painting is unframed.
