Rorschach’s Lepidoptera 1, Version Cyanotype

by Christine R. Bay

This is a new sub-series of my recent “Rorschach’s” series of artworks, exploring our identity while our minds tether between the outside physical world and the ever confusing digital world. The “Rorschach’s” is inspired by the Rorschach test, a psychological projective test that can provide insight to an individual’s identity, thought processes, mental health and emotional functioning via the perception of a series of ink blots. In this series, I combine nature into mirrored forms, emulating ink blots, which could look like Lepidoptera, crustaceans etc.

In this piece, cyanotype is combined with watercolors to form a butterfly shape. I have layered some real flowers over the cyanotype chemistry before exposing to full spectrum light. I have also added 24k gold leaf to the piece.

Important Note: For US collectors, due to the new tariffs and de minimus rule, this piece can only be shipped via letter that is not trackable. Artwork will be shipped from Singapore via Singpost.

Christine R. Bay is a Singapore-based visual artist, pop-surrealist and sculptor who dabbles in both digital and traditional media. Her works mostly revolve around using human portraits and surreal elements as a representation of the story she wants to tell and the values she wants to convey. She is now also experimenting with more sculptural projects, exploring the relationship between 3D sculpted elements and the physical space.
