Venari
Original Art by Leele Nascimento
“I am inhabited by a cry.
Nightly it flaps out
Looking, with its hooks, for something to love.
I am terrified by this dark thing
That sleeps in me;
All day I feel its soft, feathery turnings, its malignity.”
Elm by Sylvia Plath
Graphite and white conté pencil on 80 lb. paper (Strathmore Toned Tan)
Paper size: 7 x 9 inches
Important: This piece is unframed and it’s sprayed with a fixative.
Venari is a Latin word that expresses the feeling of being hunted. This drawing tries to encapsulate the fear of being targeted by the unknown and protected at the same time by solitude, as a self-defense mechanism.
