In the evenings, as I drive by the little marina on the edge of the Connecticut River, the sunset catches through the trees, turning everything a rose-gold. While the summer here has been sweltering, I thought I’d look back at a painting that reminds me of the winter’s chill, set afire with that icy evening glow. The shapes of the ice as it breaks up and slowly migrates south are endlessly fascinating. Cool purples of bare trees are smudged fingerprints on the thick orange of the sky, and pastel blues of the ice are broken up by bright golden reflections on their rippled wakes.
“Ice Floe on the Connecticut River” is an original oil painting, 12″x9,” oil on gessoed hardboard, and mounted in a 3/4″ antique silver and black floater frame.
