I wanted to try something new, allowing the portrait to form exclusively from its features. Starting with a bright blue wash of ink and gouache I drew a face burdened with visions beyond our own, gazing out with eyes of gold paint that see more than what’s merely in front of them. The piece was meant to have a water-like, ethereal quality that contrasted with the graphic nature of my line-work.
