Symbiosis
by Anna Christenson
In the life cycle of certain species of fig, the female wasps attempts to lay her eggs inside this strange, womb-like flower. However, instead of the usual life-giving nature of the womb, the wasp herself dies, wings removed and unable to escape, but the false flower develops into the delicious fruit we love to eat. In this case, the cycle of life lives on in unexpected ways.
Final painting is sprayed with a UV protective fixative and matted to 8″x10.”
