Oneirodynia

For a bit now, I’ve been collecting interesting words, and ruminating upon how to depict them visually, without being perfectly literal.

This is ‘Oneirodynia’. Disturbed sleep, inflamed imagination, replete with discomfited dreams. And let’s call it: spider mums are just fun to draw. SO MANY PETALS.

Created with graphite and a bit of ink on Stonehenge paper, I first washed the page with a glaze of iridescent watercolor, so the whole drawing has a most delicate sheen. The gold is also iridescent watercolor, but applied thickly. I tore the paper for deckled edges, and floated it into a simple frosted gold frame, under plexiglass. It can be hung by the gold chain, or sat on a table with its own stand.
