Guardians & Reliquaries III

by Stephanie Inagaki

Corvids represent familiars in my visual narratives, and first and foremost are markers of love and loyalty. They are protectors and harbingers of what is destined to come next. Many things come in a trifecta and the number three has had significance in my life.

As a Japanese woman of color, growing up in the United States, I have been barraged with duel cultural norms that systemically undervalues women. As an adult, I have been working on undoing that devaluation. These pieces harken to the old methods of revering reliquaries – containers of relics, because we should respect ourselves with humility, both our bodies and minds.
