From Dark to Light

This image was a bit experimental. When I explore in this way I’ve noticed that I tend to play with realism a bit more than usual. I feel its because when trying to get a handle on a technique, I can measure my knowledge of it by the amount of control I can bring to it. Once that happens it seems like its a bit easier to let go and let the medium have its way. Not only was the image brought from dark to light but also my understanding.

This is powdered graphite burnished onto Ampersand Claybord then using the subtractive method with Faber Castell erasers and Magic erasers to bring back the highlights of the piece. After it is blended with 4B and 6B pencil.
