To live forever, and witness the ages of humanity wash past in waves while you remain unchanged, detached from mortal worries by the scale of time but forever entranced by the beauty of life and flesh and carnality and art… The wish to be an immortal is an aching mourning for the loss of it all as it slips through one’s fingers, knowing there is far too much to see and experience in the world for only one lifetime. Every day thousands of possible futures close to us as we travel forward in the one and only life we have, not even knowing how much time we have left. Not only are there countless futures but a banquet of past eras to study, explore, embody. The attraction of the vampire mythos, to me, is not morbid. It is a fascination not with death, but with life.
