Yomeiri: Shiromuku

by Reiko Murakami

Related to Bokyou: Nostalgia, this is another piece from the series that explores one’s cultural identity. This piece, Yomeiri: Shiromuku, or 嫁入り:白無垢 (meaning Wedding In: White Dress) depicts a maiden in a traditional wedding kimono. Overlaid is the ghostly image of eagle wings spread with stars. In a traditional Japanese sense, a bride is to be wed to the groom’s family and therefore she becomes her husband’s family’s property.

4 inch x 4 inch graphite mixed media in an approx. 10 inch x 10 inch frame.
