Summer in Northampton

by Stephen Sengebush

A Toast to a Classic.

I’m digging back a couple years for this one.  In 2018 and 2019, I spent a fair amount of time painting city scenes in Northampton, MA.  I love that it tries to welcome a wide variety of people – thus it has also hosted some of my favorite local eateries.  Our plein air group set up shop in on the lawn of the massive Forbes library this summer morning, and I could just see the sun beginning to dance across the rooftops of the little brick buildings across the street.  One of these was Bistro Les Gras, a farm-focused french restaurant with a particularly excellent wine list.  Like many such places during the pandemic, it no longer exists, but when I see this painting, I remember it fondly.

Summer in Northampton” is an original oil painting, 15″x11,” oil on stretched canvas, and mounted in a handmade black wood frame
