Sacred Scarab
by Nicole Grosjean
I have always been fascinated by ancient Egypt, and completely enthralled by their style of artwork. This paper scarab beetle is framed by gilded glass, featuring 24k gold leaf, abalone veneer, and semi-precious stones. The wings are made from abalone shell and turquoise with carnelian accents, and hold a large carnelian sun disk that catches the light beautifully!

Her sculptural illustrations are patterned from detailed drawings, hand-cut, and then layered to create various depths depending on the size of the piece. The layers are then painted in watercolor and gouache, and are often back lit with LED lights.
