Root among the stars

by Dianita

“The destiny of Earthseed is to take root among the stars”
Octavia E. Butler. “Parable of the Sower.”

I just recently finished reading “Parable of the Sower” by Octavia E. Butler. It’s my first time reading a book by her and it left a mark in me for sure.

The words inside this book are relevant 30 years after publication, and I dare to say that they apply even more today. It’s weird that I indulged in making a piece inspired on a book. The character of Lauren Oya Olamina and her idea of Earthseed. Her hope for a better future was perhaps what I needed to hear at this point in my life.

“God is change” and is malleable, adaptable to our needs. A vision based in action, in starting the seed of change so we can thrive in any scenario possible. Even outside of our home, way up there beyond the sky, beyond Earth.

Thinking like that might bring a lot of awareness in our own lives, that embracing change is not as bad as our anxiety makes us feel. Right?

Slightly hidden in the image, you’ll discover that with the light hitting in a certain angle that the roots from the acorn spread through her body to the moons behind her. Europa (Jupiter) and Enceladus (Saturn) are two moons currently being studied as scientists think that these moons could become options for human life in space.
