Mask of War

This one is a little different than my usual art, but I’ve been wanting to re-work this image for a while now and I finally had the opportunity to do so. Originally inspired by the book “Johnny Got His Gun”, this image is a nightmarish look at the face of war and the impression it evokes.

The piece has a fantastic, professionally-made frame that was designed around the art (credit goes to Michael’s Framing) that really gives it a bold impact. Click on the photos below to get a closer look at the image and idea of size.

Measurements: center art measures aprox 11×13. With frame total measurement is 24×24 inches square.
Custom made frame is solid wood with raised pattern and a grey-silver finish. Thread of red wood edging to highlight red tones in the image. Covered with glass.

Bio: Kelley is inspired by the mysterious. She grew up in a house by the woods surrounded by animals and wilderness, so many of her themes bring together strange nature, mortality and spirituality. Using archetypes of characters from folklore and myth as well as her own stories, she enjoys portraying unusual tales that symbolize our hopes and fears.

Kelley earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts and her BFA from the Rhode Island School of design. Her favorite mediums are oils on wood and pencil on paper, and she loves to create her work by hand. Her favorite genres range from gothic and steampunk to classic fantasy and legends. Traveling is her only other passion equal to a career in art and is a vital component in inspiring her work.
