Life Cycle of the Mandrake
by Carisa Swenson
Said to spring from the ground below that of a hanged man, the Mandrake root is known for its distinctive human-like shape and ear-piercing scream when pulled from the ground (which is capable of killing the unfortunate soul gathering it). While folklore states a Mandrake should be bathed in milk or wine and wrapped in silk to keep it satisfied, ours are a bit more low-maintenance and just appreciate some stimulating conversation and cake every now and then. This trio demonstrates the life cycle of the Mandrake, from cotyledon, to seedling, to adult plant.
Medium: Epoxy clay, paper, Spanish moss, wire, acrylic paint, terracotta pot, sand
Sizes:
Cotyledon (baby in pot) 1/4″ high x 1/2″ wide
Seedling: 2 3/4″ high x 3/4″ wide
Adult: 3 3/4″ high (from foot to tip of leaf) x 2″ wide
