The Knight

by Greg Manchess

This is a preliminary drawing I did before painting the cover for Gene Wolfe’s The Knight. Gene Wolfe used The Knight to explore classic fantasy tropes — I saw it as my chance to revel in that pageantry and harken back to the works of our golden age illustrators. (I even got to create a whole series of chapter head illustrations for this book.)
