The hottest record this side of Measuring Tape Island. Fan yourself, enjoy the swish of fringe, brag about your giant dragonfly. That dragonfly knows things. If you whisper just right, he might tell you some.

This piece is a preview of a larger series currently being created for my solo show in May. The dragonfly has been cut and shaped by hand out of sequin material. The under-layer of the wings are hand-painted to create a watercolour look inspired by a real dragonfly. As a former couture gown designer, I had a lot of fun creating all the beaded cascades of flowers – all the blossoms are also hand-painted. All elements have been hand-stitched onto the vintage fan. It is ready to hang.

It is reinforced and can actually be used as a fan if you wanna be real extra about it but my recommendation is to present it on a wall.

Breeyn is an artist and designer based in Canada. After a decade designing custom couture fashion specializing in traditional hand-embellishment including embroidery and beading, she now creates 3D light-reflective pieces using those same techniques blended with hand-cutting, painting and shaping sequins. She twists natural and supernatural themes, merging science and fairytales to lure the viewer into believing in everyday magic.
